ChatGPT or Claude? Choose ChatGPT if you want one broad assistant for many kinds of work. Choose Claude for long reading and writing on documents.
If your company knowledge may not sit in a cloud tool, an assistant on your own laptop fits. It runs on Claude, or on a local model where nothing leaves the laptop.

Mostly wondering whether it is safe? That is a different question from which one is better. We answer it separately in is ChatGPT safe for business and Claude for business.
Two forms: a cloud workspace or an assistant on your laptop
ChatGPT and Claude look interchangeable, but the form matters more than the model behind it. Roughly, there are two ways AI enters your working day.
A cloud workspace. ChatGPT Business and Claude Team are workspaces of their own, in the browser, on the desktop and on your phone. You work in a separate app. You upload documents or link them through connectors.
Both business plans start at two users, with central administration and single sign-on. OpenAI and Anthropic both say they do not train on data from these plans by default. The sources follow below.
An assistant on your own laptop. The second form is an assistant that runs on your own laptop, grounded in your own files. Your knowledge base does not sit in a cloud tool. That is the form AI Board takes.
Local does not automatically mean nothing leaves the machine. That depends on which model answers the question: Claude via Anthropic, or a local model on the laptop itself. More on that below, without hedging.

Two things stand out. The prices sit close together, so price rarely decides. The difference is in the form and in where your data lives.
OpenAI offers European data residency, but not on Business. Anthropic states that data is stored in the US. If your question may not leave the laptop at all, only a local model remains.
And Microsoft Copilot? Many companies already have a basic version in their Microsoft 365 licence. We do not build on it; AI Board runs on Claude or a local model. Considering it anyway? Read whether you need Microsoft 365 Copilot.
What each vendor commits to about your data
Below, per vendor, what they publish themselves, with the source. Commitments change, so check the date on the source page when in doubt.
OpenAI. OpenAI says ChatGPT Business data stays yours and is not used for training by default. A data processing addendum is available. OpenAI lists European data residency for Enterprise, Edu and the API, not Business. Source: OpenAI business data.
Anthropic. The commercial terms say: "Anthropic may not train models on Customer Content from Services." The outputs are yours. Anthropic also states that data is stored in the US. Sources: Commercial Terms and the Privacy Center.
On the point most people worry about, training on your data, both say the same for their business plans. The difference is in where data lives, who manages permissions and what an administrator can configure.
Both have small print. At OpenAI it is data residency: European storage does not cover Business. At Anthropic it is feedback you send with a thumbs up or down: the Privacy Center says Anthropic may use that.

Heavier seats cost a multiple. A premium seat is €105 a month on ChatGPT Business and €90 on Claude Team, both billed annually.
A worked example for ten users billed annually: Claude Team comes to $200 a month, ChatGPT Business to €210.

When ChatGPT is the better choice
ChatGPT fits when you want one broad assistant for many kinds of work: writing, web research, analysis, images and voice. It is a workspace of its own, separate from your office suite.
That helps when your team works with both Microsoft and Google. OpenAI's pricing page also lists extensions for Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Google Sheets.
Mind the difference between personal and business. A colleague's personal account is not the same as a managed Business workspace. What that means for your data is in is ChatGPT safe for business.
When Claude is the better choice
Claude fits when your work is mostly long reading and writing: contracts, reports, policy documents and proposals. You gather documents in a project and keep building on them.
Claude Team costs $20 per user per month billed annually. According to Anthropic, it also includes Claude Code, Claude Cowork, connectors, single sign-on and central administration.
Full disclosure: the Claude edition of AI Board runs on Claude itself. On this point we are not neutral. Do not read our choice of Claude as an independent verdict.

When a local AI model fits your business
A local model runs on your own laptop, not in the cloud. In the local edition of AI Board, the processing of your question therefore stays on your machine too. That is how our security page puts it.
That fits when data may not leave the building. Think of client files, HR matters or documents under confidentiality. Or of a policy that does not allow cloud AI for certain data.
What a local model cannot do: keep up with the best cloud models. Local models are weaker, and you notice that on heavy analysis. Privacy at that setting costs you reasoning quality.
A local model also only works when your laptop is on. We deliberately name no models or scores here. Which local model suits your work depends on what you want to do with it.
So the trade-off is an honest one: privacy or reasoning power. If the sensitivity of your data weighs more than the sharpness of the answer, choose local.
When AI Board fits
AI Board is not a third chatbot next to the other two. It is a personal AI assistant on your own laptop, grounded in your company's data. It is for the person who makes the decisions.
Your knowledge base sits as plain files on your own machine: notes, documents, meeting notes and figures. It reads PDF, Word, PowerPoint and Excel files.
On top of that, you have mail and calendar connected (Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace). It pulls figures through connectors such as Google Search Console and Stripe.
There are two editions. In the Claude edition your knowledge base stays local, but your question and the retrieved context go to Anthropic. In the local edition nothing leaves the laptop, with weaker models as the price.
How that works exactly is on our security page. We would rather say it up front than have you find out later.

The options do not exclude each other. Your team can work in ChatGPT Business or Claude Team, while the managing director also has an assistant on the company's own data.
What AI Board does not do
Read this before a call with us, not after.
- No office suite. AI Board does not sit in Word, Excel or Outlook. If you want AI inside your document while you type, AI Board is not built for that.
- One person, no rollout. It is one person's assistant. For fifteen seats, ChatGPT Business or Claude Team makes more sense.
- Routines only when the laptop is on. Morning updates and weekly overviews run on your own laptop. If it is off, nothing runs.
- No EU hosting claim. We claim no EU hosting and no certifications. OpenAI publishes its own; we have nothing equivalent to set against them.
- The Claude edition is not fully local. Your question and the retrieved context go to Anthropic. Only the local edition keeps everything on the laptop, and it is less capable.
- It needs feeding. A thin knowledge base gives thin answers. The setup day gets you started; the habit keeps it valuable.
Frequently asked questions
Is Claude better than ChatGPT?
Whether ChatGPT or Claude is better depends on your work. For long reading and writing, Claude fits. For one broad assistant with images and voice, ChatGPT fits. On business plans, both say they do not train by default.
The fairest test is your own work. Take one recurring task and do it in both for two weeks. Look at the time spent and how often you had to correct the result.
Claude or ChatGPT for business: which one for a team?
For a team, a managed workspace makes sense. ChatGPT Business runs from 2 to 200 users, Claude Team from 2 to 150. Both have central administration and single sign-on.
Then look at the work itself. Lots of long documents point towards Claude, lots of different tasks towards ChatGPT. Test it with two or three colleagues before you sign everyone up.
When do I choose a local model?
When your data may not leave the laptop, not even to process a single question. Expect less reasoning power than the best cloud models, though. You notice that mostly on heavy analysis.
Can I combine them?
Yes. Your team can work in ChatGPT Business or Claude Team. Next to it, a decision-maker can have an assistant on the company's own data, with Claude or local.
Watch out for double subscriptions, though. Also agree which tool may handle which data, so nobody pastes customer details into the wrong app.
